Before you start
Prepare MT5 and the file
- Use the desktop version of MetaTrader 5 on Windows or a Windows VPS.
- Download the ZIP and extract the
.ex5file. - The free backtest is locked to XAUUSD. Make sure XAUUSD history is available from your broker.

Install
Place the EA in the Experts folder
- In MT5, choose File → Open Data Folder.
- Open MQL5 → Experts and place the extracted
.ex5file inside. - Restart MT5, or right-click Expert Advisors in Navigator and choose Refresh.

Run the test
Use a recorded, repeatable setup
- Open View → Strategy Tester, or press Ctrl+R.
- Select the DowGold EA and XAUUSD, then enter your date range and deposit.
- Choose Every tick based on real ticks and run the test.

Read the report
See how the result was earned
- Record the date range, broker data, deposit, timeframe and modeling method.
- Review drawdown, profit factor, trade count and the shape of the equity curve.
- Repeat the same setup before changing one variable at a time.

The result over the exact test period you ran.
Maximum drawdown
The largest peak-to-trough decline reported during the historical test.
Profit factor
Gross profit divided by gross loss. Read it alongside trade count and drawdown.
Trade count
More trades over a longer period give the clearest read on the strategy.
